Here's a brief list of past winners of SOMA scholarships

2008
Katie Harper of UC Davis for her research in forensic sciences. Her thesis set out to design a macroarray to quickly and accurately identify toxic and hallucinogenic mushrooms.
Nicole Hynson of UC Berkeley for her study into the identification of the mycorrhizal fungi associated with myco-heterotropic plants. A $250 book award will go to the UC Berkeley herbarium or library.
Katie Petnic, a student at St. Vincents in Petaluma. Award: $50 in the SOMA Store.
2007
Hanna Bauer, K-12 Scholarhip. Turned in a drawing of four species of fungi.
Jennifer Kerekes, UC Berkeley, Collegiate Scholarhip. Work on three confusing species of Suillus in California.
2006
Denise Gregory. Herbert M. Saylor Memorial Scholarship, for studying Clitocybe in California.
Tara Fulgenzi, Humboldt State University. Collegiate Scholarship. Taxonomic study of the Boletaceae from the neotropical rainforests of Guyana, in northeastern South America.
Joseph Sorensen. K-12 scholarship. submitted mushroom drawings and won two $50 K-12 Scholarships. His excellent drawings will be featured on the next SOMA T-Shirt.

Matthew Keirle, San Francisco State University. Herbert M. Saylor Memorial Scholarship. Project: Monographing the coprinoid fungi of Hawaii.
Ariel Mahon. K-12 Scholarship. Project: Drawing of Boletus edulis.
Megan Romberg, Ph.D. candidate at the University of California, Davis. Collegiate Scholarship. Project: Large-scale production of dye fungi in fermentation vats and possible commercialization of the dyes by this method.
