The Sonoma County Mycological Association (SOMA) is a non-profit group dedicated to learning about local mushrooms, and educating the public about the vast and diverse world of fungi.

Emergency mushroom identification

We sponsor a variety of mushroom-related activities and services open to the general public, including free emergency mushroom identification for concerned citizens of Sonoma County.

Once you learn to identify and know these delightful creatures, recreational collecting can become a lifelong and healthy hobby. The fun starts with a tiny spore!

Wild Mushroom Forays - Salt Point State Park

Forays will resume when it rains in the fall

We will resume our FREE monthly Saturday forays with Pot Luck lunch when the rains return (probably September).
Also planning some forays at other locations that will have a fee, and more MasterClass forays!

Forays provide a great opportunity to get out in the woods in a friendly atmosphere to learn the ins and outs of identifying and collecting mushrooms.

Forays are open to all but registration is required
